Description: The picturesque Parish of Odiham in Hampshire comprises the ancient & historic villages of Odiham & North Warnborough, with Broad Oak, Hillside & Rye Common. Odiham is situated in North East Hampshire between Basingstoke & Aldershot on the edge of the South Downs, with a population of 4,700 residents.

The first written record of Odiham's existence is dated 1086 AD in the Domesday Book of King William I. Odiham Castle, which is actually in North Warnborough, was constructed around 1207, and was one of three castles built as an important royal residence of King John. It was from either Odiham or Windsor that King John rode out to meet his barons at Runnymede, where he signed the Magna Carta.

Odiham High Street comprises of many old and wonderful buildings all of which are now occupied by shops, restaurants and galleries. The George Hotel & Restaurant, once a traditional 15th century coaching inn is located on the centre of the high street and is the main focal point. Other places of interest are St Johns Restaurant, the Grapevine Bistro, Art Legacy Gallery, Fountain's Coffee Shop and Katharine Jane Gifts, to name but a few.

Odiham even has its own castle, which can be accessed along the Basingstoke canal. Very little is left of the octagonal ruins, but it is still worth a visit. It was built by King John between 1207-14, and was captured by Louis, Dauphin of France, after a 15 day siege in 1216, but by the 16th century the castle was an abandoned ruin.

Odiham is a great attraction and place to visit in Hampshire, we hope you enjoy your visit.
